National Parks in Kashmir

Kashmir boasts four national parks, each with its own unique charm and ecological significance.

Dachigam National Park

Located on the outskirts of Srinagar, Dachigam National Park is home to the Hangul, a rare Kashmiri stag. The park also provides shelter to various other mammals like leopards, musk deer, and wolves. Additionally, Dachigam is a birdwatcher's paradise, with over 180 species recorded within its boundaries.

Hemis National Park

Situated in the Zanskar region of Ladakh, Hemis National Park is the largest protected area in India. The park is famous for its snow leopards, but it also shelters other endangered species like the Tibetan wolf, brown bear, and Asiatic ibex. The high-altitude terrain of Hemis offers a challenging and rewarding trekking experience for avid outdoor enthusiasts.

Entry fee: INR 20 for Indian citizens, INR 100 for foreigners, and INR 50 for monastery
June through October is the ideal season to visit Hemis National Park.

Kishtwar National Park

Nestled in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, Kishtwar National Park is a biodiversity hotspot. The park is home to the Himalayan tahr, a goat-antelope found only in the Himalayas. Additionally, Kishtwar provides a habitat for various bird species, including the western tragopan and the koklass pheasant.
